HOW TO JOIN

Become a Member in 5 Steps

Joining is straightforward — follow these steps and you'll be part of the familia in no time.

  1. Attend a General Body Meeting

    Come to one of our general body meetings to meet the chapter, hear about upcoming events, and get a feel for what SHPE PVAMU is all about. No commitment required — just show up and say hello.

  2. Create a Free SHPEConnect Account

    Head to SHPEConnect and create your free account. This is SHPE's official member portal and your gateway to scholarships, the Career Center, and all national resources.

  3. Purchase Your National Membership

    Once logged in, click "Join/Renew Membership" and follow these steps: select Region 5 as your region, then select Prairie View A&M University as your chapter. Fill out all required account and educational information, agree to the Code of Ethics, then add the membership to your cart and complete payment. Make sure to take a screenshot of your payment confirmation — you'll need it for chapter registration.

  4. Fill Out the Chapter Registration Form

    Complete the SHPE PVAMU chapter registration form so we can add you to our official roster and keep you informed about events, opportunities, and updates throughout the semester.

  5. Start Attending Events & Earning Points

    You're officially in! Show up, get involved, and start building your member points. The more active you are, the more opportunities open up — including a chapter-sponsored trip to the SHPE National Convention.

SHPE National Convention

The crown jewel of SHPE — a four-day event featuring the country's largest career fair for Hispanic STEM professionals, thousands of recruiters from leading companies, game-changing workshops, and an electric community of engineers and scientists from across the nation. The most active SHPE PVAMU members earn a fully chapter-sponsored trip to attend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SHPE only for Hispanic students?

No — SHPE is open to everyone. While SHPE was founded to uplift and empower Hispanic students in STEM, the organization welcomes all students who believe in that mission. All backgrounds, majors, and identities are welcome at SHPE PVAMU.

Does my major matter?

Not at all. While our focus is on STEM fields, students from any major are welcome to join. If you have an interest in science, technology, engineering, or math — or simply want to be part of a driven, supportive community — there is a place for you here.

How much does membership cost?

SHPE national membership for undergraduate students is $15 per year. This gives you access to national scholarships, the SHPE Career Center, discounted convention registration, and much more. Chapter registration (Step 4) is completely free.

What if I cannot afford the membership fee?

We understand that every dollar matters. Reach out to the chapter officers — we may be able to assist with fee support or direct you to available financial resources. We never want cost to be a barrier to joining the familia. Email us at shpe.pvamu@gmail.com.

When does membership renew?

SHPE national membership renews annually, typically at the start of each academic year. You can renew through your SHPEConnect account at shpe.org. We will send reminders to all chapter members when renewal season approaches.
